F1, Ferrari: Carlos Sainz admits: ‘They were the best’
“Hamilton and Russell had the best single-seaters.”
Having finished third at the end of a difficult Grand Prix already because of his grid position – the Spaniard started from the fourth row – Carlos Sainz can be satisfied with third place behind the Mercedes of George Russell, in his first career victory, and Lewis Hamilton.
The superiority of the two ‘Silver Arrows’ was also evident in the eyes of the Iberian driver himself, who made the following statements to the official Formula 1 channels: “Lewis Hamilton and George Russell undoubtedly had the best single-seaters. Next week the same thing could happen. In the last few races they have grown a lot,” Sainz admitted.
“At the start we went into a crisis, we had to enter pit lane first to fix a brake problem. The podium here is a great result, I congratulate George on his first career achievement,” concluded the Madrid native.
Carlos Sainz Jr., was born in Madrid on September 1, 1994. He is the son of driver Carlos Sainz, a two-time world rally champion and three-time winner of the Dakar Rally. Despite his father’s successes on dirt roads, Carlos immediately opted for Formula 1, making his debut in 2015 driving a Toro Rosso. After two seasons with the current AlphaTauri, one in Renault and one in McLaren, Sainz officially became a Ferrari driver in 2021.
Wearing the colors of the Maranello-based stable, the Spaniard took the first career pole position at Silverstone on July 2, 2022, and the next day he scored his first career victory in Formula 1 at the end of a race masterfully conducted in adverse weather conditions. With the success in Britain, Sainz became the second Spanish driver to win a GP in F1, after only Fernando Alonso.
