The scientific community is also celebrating Jannik Sinner, with a special tribute to the Italian champion

Science is also paying tribute to Jannik Sinner: two astronomers from the Montelupo Fiorentino (Florence) Amateur Astronomers Group, Fabrizio Bernardi and Maura Tombelli, have discovered an asteroid and decided to name it after the star player from San Candido.
“We wanted to dedicate this asteroid to Jannik Sinner,” the astronomers told ANSA —not only for his extraordinary athletic achievements, which are propelling Italy to the top of the tennis world, but also for the values of resilience, fairness, and absolute dedication he embodies both on and off the court.”
“Like a comet or a fixed celestial body, Sinner represents a shining beacon for future generations. From today onward, his greatness is also inscribed among the stars,” stated Fabrizio Bernardi and Maura Tombelli.
This is the official citation text approved by the IAU (International Astronomical Union): “Jannik Sinner (b. 2001) is one of the world’s top Italian tennis players. He has won the Australian Open, Wimbledon, and the US Open twice, and has been a member of the Davis Cup-winning team twice.”
