Five goals in the first two games of the 2026 World Cup: Lionel Messi’s start to the tournament has been legendary. However, one of his biggest admirers—the controversial RAI commentator Daniele Adani—was not among those singing his praises. On social media, the former soccer player celebrated his idol’s hat trick in the opening match against Algeria, and then his two goals in the game against Austria, but he has never been able to watch the Albiceleste play live.

Adani, who is often criticized on social media for his exuberance in the commentary booth, put on quite a show during Messi’s matches in Qatar, while in the United States he has not yet had the opportunity to commentate on them, due to a deliberate decision by Rai. According to Fanpage, this decision is not based on any ban, but rather on logistical and cost considerations.

Adani and all the commentators are spread across various locations in the United States, Canada, and Mexico: matches are therefore assigned to different pairs of commentators and analysts based primarily on their geographical location. So far, the former Brescia player has covered all the matches in New Jersey, while Argentina has played in Kansas City and Arlington, Texas. Messi and his teammates will also play their final group stage match in Texas, before moving to Miami for the Round of 16.

Messi or no Messi, the former player has certainly sparked debate with his commentary: social media remains divided between those who harshly criticize him for his excesses and those who appreciate his genuine passion, but one thing is certain: when La Pulga and his favorite commentator finally find themselves in the same arena, the show will be guaranteed in the commentary booth as well.
