Conor McGregor’s long-awaited return to the Octagon, after a five-year hiatus, lasted exactly 69 seconds. The 37-year-old Irishman was injured in the opening seconds of his match against Max Holloway at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, forcing him to throw in the towel.

After attempting a flying kick at the start of the fight, Conor McGregor landed awkwardly on his right leg. He tried to get back on his feet, but it was immediately clear that he had suffered a serious injury.

“During the fight, it was immediately clear that his demeanor had changed, When I saw him struggling, I said, ‘Stop the fight. He’s hurt.’ I just hope he makes a speedy recovery,” said Max Holloway, as reported by ESPN.

Conor McGregor was also disappointed, as he had high hopes for his big return to the Octagon: “I was kicking, training on the ground, and jumping—throughout the entire training period and even backstage before the fight. It all happened so suddenly. I’m a wreck. I can only describe it as hell,” Conor McGregor wrote in his post. At this point, everyone is asking the same question: Will he return to the ring, or is this the end of his career?
