Yael Trepy Is Out of a Medically Induced Coma, but the Battle Isn’t Over: The Medical Update

Yael Trepy, a Cagliari soccer player admitted to Santissima Annunziata Hospital in Sassari following a swimming pool accident, is out of the medically induced coma, but the road to a full recovery is still long. This was reported by hospital officials in Sassari in a bulletin released Tuesday evening.
“During the day, as planned, neuromuscular blockade was discontinued and sedation was gradually reduced, while ventilatory support was simultaneously tapered off,” the statement reads. Maintaining optimal respiratory exchange allowed us to discontinue mechanical ventilation and proceed, in the afternoon, with the patient’s extubation.”
Dr. Stefania Milia, director of the intensive care unit, added: “Upon waking, the patient showed a full recovery of consciousness: he is alert and cooperative and, at this time, shows no obvious neurological deficits. His respiratory and hemodynamic conditions are stable.”
“Given the recent extubation and the pulmonary condition resulting from inhalation syndrome, the patient remains hospitalized in the intensive care unit, where close clinical and respiratory monitoring continues. Further updates on the patient’s clinical condition will be provided as the situation evolves.”
