The situation surrounding Lautaro Martinez has exploded in the space of just a few hours. The staggering €100 million offer that Barcelona is reportedly ready to make for the Inter captain has sparked wild reactions in Spain, where the news arrived from Argentina and has been amplified with increasingly heated rhetoric.

It all began when TNT Sports Argentina reported the Blaugrana’s interest, noting that they had shifted their focus to “El Toro” after running into difficulties negotiating with Atlético Madrid for Julián Álvarez. In Spain, the story is the same: Flick, as reported by El Mundo Deportivo, has reportedly identified the Nerazzurri captain as the ideal center forward to kick off a new era.

The news has ignited a heated debate. The Catalan media are oscillating between enthusiasm and disbelief: Sport.es, which until a few days ago denied Barça’s interest in Lautaro, has completely changed its narrative, confirming in turn that something significant is brewing. Barça fans, meanwhile, are divided: some see Lautaro as the perfect replacement for Lewandowski, while others consider the deal too costly for a club that is still grappling with the financial constraints imposed by La Liga.

On the other hand, Inter is watching closely and responding firmly. The club’s position is clear: Lautaro is not for sale, and the rumored transfer fee does not change Inter’s strategy. Fans on social media, however, have reacted with anger and disbelief: the captain is considered untouchable—the symbol of recent years’ successes and the face of the team’s project—and has always been a starter under every coach he’s had during his time with Inter, from Luciano Spalletti to Antonio Conte, from Simone Inzaghi to Cristian Chivu.

This story, however, is nothing new. As early as 2020, Barça had tried to bring Lautaro to Camp Nou, partly at the urging of Lionel Messi. At that time, the deal fell through due to the enormous gap between the clubs’ valuations; today, the scenario seems to be repeating itself: great interest, a lot of buzz, but a Nerazzurri wall that remains solid. At least for now.
