Lorenzo Sonego continues to impress: Denis Shapovalov knockout

After more than three hours of very hard battle Lorenzo Sonego managed to beat world number 18 Denis Shapovalov with a score of 7-6 6-7 6-4. Italy thus wins the first point in the challenge against Canada.

Sonego in the first minutes of the match suffered from his opponent’s aggressiveness but then was very good at recovering and getting back on track. The Canadian tried several times to get the Italian into the ball but there was nothing to be done: the Turin-based tennis player remained well focused on the challenge and won a crucial victory for Italy.

The Davis Cup (officially Davis Cup by Rakuten, known until 1945 as the International Lawn Tennis Challenge) is the world’s top national team competition in men’s tennis, whose women’s equivalent is the Billie Jean King Cup. Organized by the International Tennis Federation, it is held annually.
