Bad weather on Giro d’Italia, drastic route change
13th stage of Giro d’Italia brought down from 199 to 74 km due to bad weather
The bad weather that has hit Piedmont in recent hours has convinced the Giro d’Italia organization to shorten the 13th stage, scheduled for Friday, from 199 to 74 km, with a new start in Le Chable (instead of Borgofranco d’Ivrea) and the arrival confirmed in Crans Montana. The stage will therefore be run entirely on Swiss soil.
“Given the adverse weather conditions, especially on the Italian side, the Commission has decided to meet the athletes’ requests by applying the Extreme Weather Protocol,” reads the organizers’ note. “Stage 13 is shortened with the new km 0 to be placed in Le Chable, at the entrance of the Croix de Couer. The final part of the stage will be maintained. The timetables in the route plan remain unchanged.”
