After six years, Alfa Romeo is leaving (for good?) Formula 1. The return to the highest levels of motorsport, strongly desired by Sergio Marchionne, had taken place in 2018 after an absence of more than 30 years, the first year with the cars still named Sauber, from 2019 in all respects Alfa Romeo. "The six seasons in F1 have contributed to the revitalization of the Alfa Romeo brand image and the popularization of its technological avant-garde,” reads the farewell statement. È it is with great emotion and gratitude that the brand therefore closes another chapter of its sporting history in motorsport, which has always been in the brand”’s DNA.
Alfa Romeo thanks "all those who have shared these unforgettable years. A special thought to Sergio Marchionne, who strongly wanted this pairing, and who strongly supported the partnership in 2018. A huge thank you to the drivers, in chronological order: Charles Leclerc, Marcus Ericsson, Antonio Giovinazzi, Kimi Räikkönen, Zhou Guanyu and Valtteri Bottas who have fought for the team" over these 6 years.
"At the end of these six seasons è time to take stock. For Alfa Romeo this adventure in F1 has been an absolute international showcase, as well as a profound human and sporting experience that has supported the development of our products with an excellent return on investment, offering a powerful strategic marketing platform worldwide for Alfa Romeo. The benefits in terms of visibility represent a benchmark for the entire Stellantis group. Alfa Romeo has competition in its DNA and will get back to thrilling its fans as soon as possible, when the right conditions", comments Jean Philippe Imparato, CEO of Alfa Romeo.
