Grigor Dimitrov speaks out on injuries to Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz
Grigor Dimitrov speaks out on the calendar
Speaking at a press conference after defeating Yoshihito Nishioka in the second round of the Internazionali d'Italia, Bulgarian tennis player Grigor Dimitrov, among other topics, dwelt on the numerous physical problems reported by several players, Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz and Daniil Medvedev above all, during the last tournaments. More specifically, the 32-year-old è spoke bluntly about the busy ATP schedule.
"We have to win to play a lot of matches. I think stretching some tournaments is not the easiest thing for our body to sustain. Even if we have a day off, we still have to use it to train and prepare. It doesn’t matter how strong you are mentally or physically. There are many factors I could talk about. We have had many withdrawals in the last few tournaments, for example, Sinner and Medvedev in Madrid. Tennis è a tough sport and it is becoming more and more challenging to sustain physically" began the Bulgarian tennis player.
" It was a difficult match, I could have done better, forò è the first time I played on this court and in these conditions. I am happy to have finished in two sets, but I can do better from the point of view of my game. Now I have a day off to try some things in practice. I love the Rome crowd, I can feel their energy. It's like being at home. I really enjoy playing here even though I haven't had my best results. I know that if I do things right, I can play my cards" added the 32-year-old from Haskovo.
"It's never fun to face Rafa Nadal on clay. It's difficult in general for a tennis player with a one-handed backhand to play against him on clay, as è the direction of the ball è different and you have to move more" concluded Grigor Dimitrov.
