England convincing against Bosnia, Germany dry with Ukraine

One big convinces, the other cues.

England definitely convincing, Germany much less so. These were the big themes of the friendlies played Monday evening ahead of Euro 2024, after the selection from across the Channel’s 3-0 win against Bosnia and the more disappointing 0-0 German draw in the match against a Ukraine that threw its heart over the obstacle despite the opponents’ many chances.

England must contend with a rival without Edin Dzeko and with a decidedly covered lineup. This does not prevent the hosts from dominating the challenge at St. James's Park, despite a first half in which the second lines fail to unlock the game against a Bosnia focused only on not conceding goals.

To unlock the result è then a penalty, which arrived at 60' and which Cole Palmer transformed (for him first ever goal in an England jersey). Southgate then sends the starters on the field, and the choice pays off: at the 85'85' Alexander-Arnold doubles in an acrobatic move, then at the 88'88' è Kane closes the score with an underhand touch.

More complex was Germany’s match in Nuremberg, although there was no shortage of chances. Musiala, Gundogan and Wirtz behind Havertz are not enough to get the better of Ukraine, moreover dangerous at the end of the first half with Yaremchuk (Neuer decisive). Nagelsmann throws youngsters and even rookies into the game, but Beier fails to beat Trubin despite four sharp chances.
