Jannik Sinner vs Carlos Alcaraz, all the history between the two young champions
Eight previous between Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz
Anticipation is growing for the Roland Garros semifinal between Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz: the upcoming world No. 1 and his friend-rival from Murcia will play their ninth straight clash on Friday, which will specifically be worth a place in the final of the Paris slam against the winner of the other semifinal between Casper Ruud and Alexander Zverev.
The match record between Sinner and Alcaraz, in the eight previous matches, è perfectly even: four wins for the South Tyrolean, as many for his opponent today. Sinner won two matches in 2022, in Wimbledon in the round of 16, 6-1, 6-4, 6-7(8), 6-3, and in the final in Umag, 6-7(5), 6-1, 6-1.
The blue athlete's other two successes, however, date back to 2023: in the semifinals in Miami, Sinner won 6-7(4), 6-4, 6-2, while in Beijing, also in the semifinals, the success è came in two fractions, ending 7-6(4), 6-1. Alcaraz, on the other hand, won the first and last previous matches: in the semifinals of the Paris-Bercy tournament in 2021, with a score of 7-6(1), 7-5, and in the semifinals at Indian Wells in 2024, 1-6, 6-3, 6-2.
In between were two other successes, in the quarterfinals of the US Open in 2022, after a marathon finish 6-3, 6-7(7), 6-7(0), 7-5, 6-3, and in the semifinals at Indian Wells in 2023, with the Murcian able to impose himself (as he would later do the following year) 7-6(4), 6-3.
Not on the major circuit is another precedent, dating back to 2019: both very young, Sinner and Alcaraz faced each other in a minor tournament in Alicante and it was the Murcian who came out on top, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3.
