Davis Cup, Jannik Sinner and Matteo Berrettini complete comeback: it’s semifinals

Jannik Sinner and Matteo Berrettini complete a comeback against Argentina (2-1) and take Italy into the Davis Cup semifinals. In the decisive doubles match on the indoor concrete of Malaga, in fact, the South Tyrolean and the Roman beat in two sets (6-4 7-5) the pair formed by Maximo Gonzalez and Andres Molteni after nearly an hour and a half of play.
A shivering start for the Azzurri: in the second game Berrettini è already forced to cancel a break ball with a winning first. In the next game it is the Azzurri who get two break points, but Gonzalez/Molteni save themselves. In the ninth game forò the balance is broken: break to zero by the Italian pair that goes up 5-4 and closes with another game to zero with Berrettini serving, winning the first set.
In the second set the Argentine pair put up more resistance but in the decisive moment it was again Sinner and Berrettini who made the difference: at 5-5 Berrettini won the break ball with a forehand to the body on Molteni and Sinner converted it at the end of a perfect point. Ahead 6-5 and serving, Berrettinini has no problem filing the case, closing on the first match point.
Thanks to this victory, Italy thus flies to the semifinals where it will face Australia, which surprisingly eliminated the United States. The penultimate act between the Azzurri and the Australians è scheduled for Saturday, November 24, starting at 1 p.m.: Alex De Minaur and his teammates will try to take back their revenge after last year’s defeat in the final that gave the title to Filippo Volandri’s men.
