For Formula 1 Charles Leclerc is flunked
Formula 1 puts Charles Leclerc on the list of failures
As usual, Formula 1 has compiled its very own personal list of the race weekend’s pros and flunks. Charles Leclerc was included among the latter: “Charles Leclerc was desperate for another success in Monza and had booked himself a prime spot to experience it with a fantastic pole position on Saturday.”
“On Sunday, however, the Monegasque did not seem to have the race pace to contain Verstappen, although there will be those who will once again point to Ferrari using an alternative strategy, effectively two stops to Verstappen’s. All this is to say that, at this juncture, the chances of Charles Leclerc becoming the âWorld Champion 2022â seem hopelessly remote.”
Positive, however, is his assessment of the fans who filled Monza: “No, the fans-the famous hordes of Italian fans-could not see a Ferrari victory this weekend. But with Monza at full capacity for the first time since back in 2019, there was no way to dampen the party atmosphere, while Leclerc at least gave Ferrari fans a fabulous pole position and podium finish. It was also a great way for Monza to celebrate its 100th year of existence, the Temple of Speed that continues to give us fantastic racing and did so on the occasion of its 100th anniversary as well.”
Carlos Sainz also did well: “The wait for Carlos Sainz to stand on the famous Monza podium as a Ferrari driver continues (although he did it as a McLaren driver). But considering that he started P18, getting all the way to P4 at the end of the race was a fantastic remuntada by Sainz. The driver also said that Sunday’s performance helped him reach a new level of confidence in the F1-75, so he will be one to watch when we get to Singapore in a few weekends.”
The other hopefuls: Max Verstappen, Nyck de Vries, Mercedes, Zhou Guanyu. Failed, with Charles Leclerc, Nicholas Latifi, Daniel Ricciardo, the Aston Martin and Haas.
