Fencing, three medals for Italy in Vancouver

Another spectacular Italian night for Italian foil: in Vancouver in the women’s event Martina Favaretto triumphs with Arianna Errigo in bronze, then silver in the men’s event by Davide Filippi. Italy’s CT Simone Vanni won three medals in Canada in the individual competitions of the penultimate World Cup stage before the European Championships in Genoa.

There was also a great blue tally among the men, with Davide Filippi’s silver, thus achieving the best result in his career, yielding only to the U.S. Massialas.
The test of Martina Favaretto and Arianna Errigo began in the round of 64 with successes, respectively, over the U.S. Eyer (15-5) and Japan’s Tsuji (15-12). In the round of 32 the two blues then prevailed against China’s Han (15-8) and France’s Nayl (15-10). The perfect day for the 23-year-old from Noale then ended with a 15-11 success against Lee Kiefer in the final, thus allowing Favaretto to win her seventh Cup competition and confirm herself as the world’s No. 1 evermore.

Next came Tommaso Marini (17th), Alessio Foconi (18th), Damiano Rosatelli (22nd), Giulio Lombardi (26th), Lorenzo Nista (27th), Francesco Ingargiola (30th) and Edoardo Luperi (46th)

Tomorrow the two team trials that will conclude the foil World Cup stage in Vancouver.
