Caroline Garcia announces retirement

Caroline Garcia, 31-year-old Frenchwoman who was world No. 4 in 2018 and in this position in the world rankings ended 2022, her best year, announced with a long post on social networks her retirement from the activity, although not immediate since she will participate for the fourteenth time in her home tournament, Roland Garros.
“Dear tennis, it’s time to say goodbye – Caroline writes -. After 15 years of competing at the highest level, and more than 25 years in devoting almost every second of my life to the sport, I feel ready to turn the page and open a new chapter.”
“My journey has not always been easy. From the time I was born, tennis has always represented much more than wins or losses. It was love or hate. Joy or frustration. And yet, I am deeply grateful for all that this adventure has offered me. For all that tennis has given me. For the strong, passionate and determined woman it has helped me become.”
“But today, it is time to move beyond that. My body, and my personal aspirations, demand it of me. That said, it’s not over yet. I still have a few more tournaments to play. The first one, at home, at Roland Garros. My 14th consecutive participation, and last. So, I say to all my tennis family out there, let’s get together one last time, to dream together and fight one more time.”
“In the coming days, I will take some time to talk about what is going to happen. But for now, I just want to fully enjoy these last few weeks as a professional player. Thank you all for your support.”
In her career, Garcia has won eleven tournaments on the WTA major circuit, the most important of which was the 2022 WTA Finals in Fort Worth by beating current world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in the final.
