Remco Evenepoel world champion

Where the Belgian champions had failed at the World Cup at home in 2021, he succeeds them on Australian soil, on the other side of the hemisphere. Remco Evenepoel, cycling’s predestined, puts on one of his favorite pieces: the breakaway from a distance. With a solo action of about 27 kilometers, he flies to the first rainbow jersey of his still short, but already rewarding, pro career.

Daniele Bennati’s first Italy at a World Championships does not disfigure in the presence of the great champions in the race today (with the exception of a Van der Poel author of a story bordering on the improbable). Matteo Trentin, the courageous captain of this group of boys, grabs a fifth place that, the way things had gone, amazes him before anyone else. As soon as he crossed the finish line he embraced Lorenzo Rota, also the author of a courageous and attacking race, who saw the possibility of the sprint for the podium vanish just a few meters from the finish line. He, Samuele Battistella and Nicola Conci are the heroes of the day for our national team.

They color the various leading groups blue throughout the day. When the race gets into full swing, Lorenzo Rota is the quickest to respond to Evenepoel and Lutsenko. And it is always he who organizes and animates the chase that brings Schmid, Eenkhoorn and Jensen back on the Kazakh, who in turn is detached from the Belgian. The five, however, looked too much at each other at the moment of the sprint and were sucked into the launched peloton with only a few hundred meters to go.
