Darren Cahill reveals a ruthless judgment Novak Djokovic gave him about Jannik Sinner

During former tennis player Andy Roddick’s podcast, Jannik Sinner’s coach Darren Cahill shared an anecdote regarding Novak Djokovic, who after beating the current world No. 1 at Wimbledon by rallying from a two-set disadvantage gave a merciless assessment of the South Tyrolean to the Australian coach, who had recently begun his partnership with Jannik. Here are Cahill’s words.

“Nole told me ‘Jannik hits the ball very well, but there is no variation. Very little change of trajectory, no height over the net, he doesn’t come to the net, he doesn’t try to take me inside the court. I know he responds well, but he is not aggressive on the response. He doesn’t attack my serve, doesn’t hurt’.”

“Sinner had won the first two sets, but then Novak came back and took over, exactly the way he does: he gets used to the ball, the trajectory, the rhythm, and then, as always, he doesn’t make any more mistakes and won the last three sets quite sharply. That’s why I was so interested in his opinion.”

“He didn’t tell us anything we hadn’t already seen and didn’t know, but when we told Jannik about it and told him it was coming from Novak, the effect was completely different, and he told us he was ready to change.”
