F1, budget cap case: the official statement of the FIA
“Alleged violations of the Financial Regulations, if any, will be dealt with according to the formal process set forth in the regulations”
The Formula 1 Circus is busy at the Singapore track for the 17th round of the 2022 World Championship, but, at least for a few hours-and perhaps even in the following days-the attention of everyone in the industry has shifted to the sensational news of an alleged budget cap violation that would involve Red Bull and, to a lesser extent, Aston Martin as well.
After the statements, in the Mercedes house, of Toto Wolff, and the ostentatious calm shown by Christian Horner, Red Bull’s Team Manager, came also the harsh remarks of Laurent Mekies, the Ds of Ferrari, who called for ‘maximum severity and transparency’ on the part of the FIA. Said. Or at least, the International Federation struck a blow with an official statement released on Friday evening.
“The FIA is finalizing its assessment of the financial data for 2021 submitted by all Formula 1 teams. Alleged violations of the Financial Regulations, if any, will be dealt with according to the formal process set out in the regulations. The FIA takes note of significant and unsubstantiated speculation and conjecture in relation to this matter and reiterates that the assessment is ongoing and due process will be followed without regard to any outside discussion,” the note reads.
