At the WTA 1000 in Cincinnati it is again Jasmine Paolini’s day, who in the women’s draw is set to play the semifinals on Sunday against Veronika Kudermetova, less than twenty-four’hours after the bitter epilogue of her adventure in the doubles: despite the efforts of the Italian champion together with Sara Errani, the race in fact stopped in the semifinals.

Paolini and Errani were pitted against China&#8217s Guo Hanyu and Russia&#8217s Alexandra Panova.

The match did not have much history, with the Italian women opponents able to impose themselves 6-3, 6-2 after an hour and eight minutes of play. Guo and Panova will face in the finals Gabriela Dabroski of Canada and Erin Routilffe of New Zealand, who defeated the Kichenok/Perez duo 3-6, 6-3, 12-10.

Hope remains alive, however, for Jasmine Paolini to walk away from Cincinnati with one more trophy in her trophy case.

Against Kudermetova, however, it will not be a simple affair, as the 27-year-old from Kazan is comfortable on faster surfaces. Paolini, however, has proven on several occasions that she can win against any opponent facing her. The match is scheduled for Saturday no earlier than 9 p.m. (Italian time).

In the other semifinal of the women&#8217s tournament in Cincinnati, Kazakhstan&#8217s Elena Rybakina and Poland&#8217s Iga Swiatek face each other instead. The latter is the only one to have been confirmed at this point in the tournament with respect to 2024, as two of the semifinalists from last year&#8217s edition, namely Aryna Sabalenka and Jessica Pegula, were eliminated in the previous rounds and Paula Badosa did not participate instead.
