Matteo Franzoso death, the heartbreaking words of Christof Innerhofer

“I’ve gone out of my mind, I can’t even sleep”. The tragic death of Matteo Franzoso during the National Alpine Ski Team’s training in Chile has shocked Christof Innerhofer, who has decided to return to Italy. Speaking with ‘La Repubblica’, the Italian athlete told of his state of mind, calling himself devastated by what happened.
“The first night I walked until 4 a.m., the second I stayed in the gym to vent. I am devastated. I don’t care to stay here, I”m going home” explained Innerhofer, who among other things recounted that he was robbed of, among other things, his passport, which forced him to take a ride from the Italian Embassy in Chile before arranging his return.
“I am going back home – reiterated the 40-year-old skier on the force of the Yellow Flames Sports Group -. I’m not interested in training, I couldn’t do it. I don’t have the strength, how can I think about skiing? The results count for zero compared to the life lost. I want to go to Matteo’s funeral, try in my small way to be close to his family”.
Matteo Franzoso passed away Monday, two days after a dramatic fall in training in La Parva, a town some 50 kilometers away from the Chilean capital, Santiago. Fatal to the blue athlete, who would have been just 26 years old on Sept. 16, was the cerebral edema caused to him by the head injury, following the fall in training.
