Marc Marquez outspoken about the possibility of equaling Valentino Rossi

In Motegi, on the MotoGP weekend that has just begun, Marc Marquez has his first rainbow match point: he will need to earn at least three points between Sprint Race and Sunday’s race to win his ninth World Championship, seventh in the premier class. In doing so, he would equal one of the legends of world sports, Valentino Rossi, who managed to win just nine titles, including seven between 500 and MotoGp.
The relationship between Marquez and Rossi themselves has never been particularly idyllic, especially from 2015 onward, but the Catalan, speaking to ‘As’, tried to go beyond the rivalry: “For me to equal him would be an honor – explained Marquez -, we are talking about one of my idols of youth, along with Dani Pedrosa. Rossi is one of the legends of the sport, it can only be a pleasure to see my name juxtaposed with his”.
Approaching the subject, Marquez still wanted to dodge any possible comparisons: “I do not like to talk about ‘greatest of all time’ you will never hear me use that definition. Every era has had its great champions: there are drivers who competed in different years, without there being a direct comparison to define the fastest. It is like comparing Messi and Maradona”.
With eleven victories out of fifteen Grands Prix, to which must be added no less than fourteen successes in Sprint Races, Marc Marquez is the ruler of the 2025 World Championship.
Opponents are left with only crumbs, as the only ones to have won besides the number 93 were his brother Alex, with two GPs and a Sprint in his trophy cabinet, Pecco Bagnaia, with a Sunday victory, Marco Bezzecchi, who won a long race and a Sprint race, and Johann Zarco, surprise winner of the French GP.
