F1, Ferrari no longer knows how to win: a year-long fast

October 27, 2024. Carlos Sainz, in a Ferrari, wins the Mexican GP. Great joy for the Rossa, which also celebrates Charles Leclerc’s third place. No one could have ever imagined that that triumph would be the’last.

To date, the victory of the Spanish driver, now driving for Williams, is the Cavallino’s last in Formula 1. A full 23 GPs have passed since the success on Mexican soil, all punctuated by great disappointments and very little satisfaction.

This weekend it is raced precisely in Mexico City with Ferrari that comes refreshed by the third place of Charles Leclerc in Austin (fourth Lewis Hamilton). Both are called to a real feat to try to break the long fast from victories.

The spotlight, in particular, is on Lewis Hamilton. The seven-time World Champion, with the exception of his victory in the Sprint at the Chinese GP, is not only looking for his first success with the Cavallino but also his first podium finish (he has already broken Pironi’s record, a negative one, becoming the driver with the most races without podiums in Ferrari’s history). Clearly, the favorites to win the Mexican GP are others (Max Verstappen and the two McLaren drivers Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris) but Ferrari has a duty to try. It needs a flicker to make a highly disappointing season less bitter.
