It will be Italy-Spain Davis Cup final: fatal double for Germany

Although without Jannik Sinner on one side and Carlos Alcaraz on the other, Italy and Spain are still confirmed at the top of world tennis, with their respective qualifiers for the 2025 Davis Cup finals: in fact, on the heels of the Italian success against Belgium came the victory of the men captained by David Ferrer, who beat Germany in three matches.
Decisive victory in the doubles by Marcel Granollers and Pedro Martinez, who defeated Kevin Krawietz and Tim Pütz in three sets: 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 the score of the match, which rewarded the red-shirted duo after one’hour and three quarters of play on the concrete of the Super Tennis Arena at Bologna Fiere.
In the previous two singles matches, Pablo Carreño Busta had defeated Jan-Lennard Struff 7-4, 7-6(6), while world No. 3 Alexander Zverev had managed to momentarily even the score by beating Jaume Munar 7-6(2), 7-6(5) not without pain. For Spain it is the 11th Davis Cup final overall, the first since 2019: that was the debut edition of the competition’s new format, which replaced the traveling one used until the previous year.
It will also be the first-ever final between Italy and Spain: the Azzurri, led by Filippo Volandri, are in Bologna with Matteo Berrettini, Flavio Cobolli, Lorenzo Sonego, Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori while the Spaniards can field Pablo Carreño Busta, Jaume Munar, Marcel Granollers and Pedro Martinez, given Alcaraz’s last-minute forfeit.
