Not just Jannik Sinner: Carlos Alcaraz responds to strong criticism in Spain

Just like Jannik Sinner in Italy, Carlos Alcaraz has also faced quite a bit of criticism recently in Spain.

The Spanish tennis player, who was forced to skip the Davis Cup after suffering a minor injury in the ATP Finals against Azzurro, will instead be back on court regularly in December for some exhibition matches in the United States that have sent several fans and even some insiders into a rage.

Alcaraz will play matches in New York and Miami: his opponents will be Frances Tiafoe and rising star Joao Fonseca. “First of all, it&#8217s normal for people to think this way and not understand why we complain about the schedule and then organize the exhibitions”, Alcaraz premised to the Associated Press.

“But for me, the main difference is that, in a tournament, you have to maintain concentration and it is really physically and mentally demanding for a week and a half”, continued the Iberian. “An ’exhibition, on the other hand, lasts only one day: “You stay focused, you warm up, you train little, for one match”.

“You can play with fun, delivering good tennis, while having fun. Or you can approach them seriously, using tactics that you will use later. As for me I will play well, I will take them very seriously, but at the same time I will try to have as much fun as I can” concluded Alcaraz, who in January will face Sinner in another exhibition match preceding the Australian Open.

The Australian Open is a good match for me.
