Another day to forget for Lewis Hamilton in Qatar: in qualifying for the Sprint Race (to be held on Saturday at 3 p.m. Italian time) the seven-time world champion failed to place his Ferrari beyond eighteenth place, putting him behind only the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and Franco Colapinto. Already in free practice the signs had not been encouraging, with the number 44 only twelfth, but Q1 for the Sprint went even worse and Hamilton himself, on the microphones of Sky Sports, did not hide his disappointment, mixing it with a bit of sarcasm. “Nothing new, as usual the car was not going” explained the Ferrarista.

“The choice to load the car– said again the multiple world champion, who has not yet been able to show his worth at the wheel of the Rossa this year’has not given any answers and I do not think there is any further news ahead of Sprint and qualifying for the Grand Prix. If there’s a silver lining? The good weather…”. Qualifying for the Qatar Sprint Race at the Lusail circuit ended with Max Verstappen taking pole position, which means he will start ahead of everyone in the short race. Also in the Top 10 are a surprising Fernando Alonso (Aston Martin), Oscar Piastri (McLaren), Nico Hulkenberg (Kick Sauber), Lando Norris (McLaren), Isack Hadjar (Racing Bulls), George Russell (Mercedes), Carlos Sainz (Williams), Yuki Tsunoda (Red Bull) and Ollie Bearman (Haas).

From 11th place onward, however, qualified Kimi Antonelli (Mercedes), Gabriel Bortoleto (Kick Sauber), Charles Leclerc (Ferrari), Alex Albon (Williams), Esteban Ocon (Haas), Lance Stroll (Aston Martin), Liam Lawson (Racing Bulls), Lewis Hamilton (Ferrari), Pierre Gasly and Franco Colapinto (both Alpine). On Saturday, in addition to the 3 p.m. Sprint Race, qualifying for the Gp is also scheduled at 7 p.m. Italian time.
