Marc Marquez confesses this to Jorge Lorenzo: "I made a mistake"

Marc Marquez revisited the most difficult moments of his career in an interview with Jorge Lorenzo, former MotoGP rival and current DAZN Spain pundit. The Catalan rider, who is recovering from the serious arm injury that forced him to miss the last Grands Prix of the long-won World Championship, told how past experiences have taught him a hard and important lesson: “It is true that we made some mistakes after the 2020 injury, such as returning too early. That created a series of new injuries and surgeries that, without that decision, could have been avoided”.
“I made a wrong decision – continued the Catalan star – which made me suffer more than necessary, which made me mature a lot. But I managed to overcome that decision with a title, which is what I was looking for most”. Marquez was able to return to a rainbow victory in 2025, making it 9 World Championships in his career, like Valentino Rossi. “In these five years I may not have achieved much professionally, but a lot from the human point of view. I don’t think I lost four years of my sports career, but rather I gained four years of my personal life”.
Statements very similar to those made at the Cervera party a few days ago, when Marquez had stated, “I have changed a lot. Maybe I lost 3 years in my career, but I gained 6 years in maturity and personal life, keeping the same passion because you don”t lose your DNA. Rider number 93 also spoke about his brother Alex, this year’s vice world champion: “Alex can become champion next year. Then again, he was the only one to slip out of the world championship lead this year – are his words to As- . When you are in a moment like that you never know where you will stop. In the immediate term he will be my main rival “.
Marc Marquez, however, also sent a message to his Ducati teammate Pecco Bagnaia, who has been a major disappointment this season: “We need him. We need him to come back to his level, he is super sensitive with the bike and we will need him to develop it. Pecco is fast, his speed is still there. He is showing it in some sessions, he has shown it in some races. I mean in the Japanese GP he scored 37 points and I pushed but I could never catch him. We’ll see this winter, sometimes it only takes two months to reset everything. So December and January will be the best time for Pecco to reset everything and start again from testing in Malaysia”.
