In a lengthy post published on her social profiles, Sofia Goggia announced a major milestone, yet another in her glorious career: in the spring she will graduate with a degree in political science. Fans of the strong skier filled the post with ‘likes’ and congratulatory comments arrived from all over the world. “I went down to Rome on Monday to give the last exam in conclusion to my university course at the Faculty of Political Science at Luiss” wrote Goggia on Facebook.

“I had long felt within me the urgent need to explore something that was outside the perimeters of my skiing activity, I felt that I was missing something that could be constructive for my life and I still remember – blessing it – that exchange of messages on the Bontadini chairlift in Cervinia with Giorgio Avola (fencer, former gdf) , which took place a few months before I enrolled.
Thank you for convincing me to embark on this Dual Career path, despite various and legitimate misgivings about the possibility of reconciling two activities, sports and education, both high-level and demanding”.

“To be able to take these 25 or so exams, always in attendance, mostly taking advantage of the only sessions in which I could give them (the summer ones in my case for obvious reasons) took commitment, energy, dedication, organization, discipline, optimization of time, a method of study that I struggled to find at first, a mental plasticity that I thought I had lost, the propensity to develop thinking that could be critical, which constituted perhaps my greatest curiosity, in addition to the fact of acquiring notions that could broaden views giving me a more complete general overview”.

“Thanks to the Luiss Management for bestowing on me, as on so many other athletes, this precious scholarship; thanks to the Tutors and Professors who willingly accompanied me on this path. Thank you to those who have shown me the way, to all the athletes who are studying and a wish to those who, with courage, will decide to take this path in parallel with their sports activities. I cannot tell you that it will be easy but I assure you that it will constitute a personal satisfaction of no small importance combined with a great opportunity for what will be post-career”.

“Now, I look beyond … because my personal, and especially sporting ambition right now, does not stop solely at earning a University Degree in the spring. Maiora Premunt” concluded Sofia Goggia. On Sunday, the champion from Bergamo earned her second podium in the space of two days in St. Moritz, finishing third in the SuperG in Switzerland behind only New Zealand’s Alice Robinson, who with a time of 1’14″84 captured her first career success in the specialty, and France’s Romane Mirandoli.

The Azzurra managed this time to get behind the amazing Lindsey Vonn to take her 64th World Cup podium, her 20th in SuperG. St.Moritz also proved to be a favorable location for Goggia, who has scored a total of nine podiums in her career, including three victories.
