Another resounding feat of Italian volleyball. Sir Sicoma Monini Perugia clinched the World Cup by beating in Belém, Brazil, the’Osaka Bluteon with a dry 3-0 win. The superiority of coach Lorenzetti’s team was total. The Umbrians won 25-20, 25-21, 29-27, at the end of a match in which, third set aside, they always proved to be one step ahead of their opponents. For Perugia this is the third World title in its history and the closing of a circle, after the Scudetto and Champions League victories.

Decisive, once again, was Gianelli, who, in addition to an imperial performance, also grounded the point that earned the success over the’Osaka Bluteon. The captain of the Umbrian lineup and the national team also took home the tournament MVP trophy (in addition to that of best setter). This is the Dream Team of the World Cup: setters Russell (Zawiercie) and Lopez (Osaka); middle blockers Solé and Loser (Perugia); opposite Ben Tara (Perugia); setter Giannelli (Perugia); libero Yamamoto (Osaka).

Perugia approached the final with the right attitude. In the first set, the wall effectiveness of Ben Tara and other Perugia players is remarkable. Within an instant, 20-14 Perugia. The Japanese save two set points but, in the third, abetted by a service error by Tomita, surrender. Even in the second set, Perugia is always one step ahead of its opponents. This time it is Brizard’s error that hands the second set to the Umbrians. Ahead 2-0, Perugia has to deal with Osaka’s reaction. Very hard-fought set. The Japanese also have set points but do not convert them. It was Gianelli who closed the score, thus starting the party.

.

The wonderful Perugia thus wins its third World Championship title in the last four World Championships (it won in 2022 and 2023), confirming the superiority of Italian volleyball, which is capable of winning both the men’s and women’s world titles (with Scandicci beating, in the all-Italian final, Conegliano).

Sir Sicoma Monini Perugia also rewrote the record book of the rainbow event. Captain Gianelli’s team has, in fact, won all 13 matches played in the competition (in three total participations). The confirmation of a golden moment for the team of coach Lorenzetti, the leading man of the Umbrians.
