Series A, Trapani shark sting: double fine and one disqualified

The sports judge issued disciplinary measures after the 13th day of Serie A Unipol. Sting for the Trapani Shark, which received a double fine: a €50,000 fine for the absence of a registered athlete in the challenge against Openjobmetis Varese’Openjobmetis and a €1,333 fine for insults against referees and opposing players. But that is not all: the Sports Judge, in fact, also disqualified for one day Alessandro Cappelletti, who was ejected in the final of the challenge against the white and red team.

“Fine of Euro 1,333.00 for collective and frequent offenses directed at referees and opposing team members [art. 27,4bd RG rec., art. 24,4 RG” is what can be read in the official FIP press release. “Fine of Euro 50,000.00 taken note of the note dated 24.12.2025 of the Basketball League Series A – deputed to the control of athletes contracts by art. 13.4 paragraph 5 DOA – to the Italian Basketball Federation, for having deposited number 11 athletes contracts, despite having opted for the formula of 6+6 referred to in art. 13.4 paragraph 4 DOA” continues the note of the Federbasket.

Alessandro Cappelletti, point guard of the Sicilian team, on the other hand, was stopped with one round of stop “because when the game was stopped, following a technical foul whistled at the player T. Moore, he first chased the opponent, then, despite being restrained by teammates and players of the opposing team, in breaking free he pushed the opposing player C. Stewart and addressed insults and threats to opposing player T. Moore; conduct that resulted in his ejection. [Art. 33.2/1e RG]”.

The sports judge also punished Luis Scola, sports executive of the’Openjobmetis Varese, with a’warning “because at the end of the game he stood unauthorized in the locker room tunnel, where he had an altercation with the facility security personnel [art. 35,1a RG]”.

The CEO of the Lombard club downplayed the incident, as witnessed by an official statement from Varese: “Regarding what happened at the end of last night’s game, Pallacanestro Varese, on behalf of its CEO Luis Scola, wishes to clarify that the episode is part of the context of an excited moment, experienced with great emotional intensity by both parties. It was nothing serious or anything beyond the normal tensions that can arise in high-level competitive situations. Respect for opponents, for clubs and for the game remains a central and indispensable value”.
