Genoa knocked out on penalty, Daniele De Rossi scuttles regulation

Napoli beat Genoa at Marassi thanks to a penalty awarded as time expired, a decision that Daniele De Rossi really did not like. The Grifone coach did not hide his very deep disappointment after the match, using even very harsh (and partly unrepeatable) words in a press conference. In his personal crosshairs ends in particular the current regulation, the same one that had been widely criticized also on Thursday in the Coppa Italia, after Bremer&#8217s foul that had caused a penalty from the importance in the end capital for Atalanta’s victory over Juventus.

It's Atalanta the second team qualified for the Italian Cup semifinals.
After Inter, victorious Wednesday night 2-1 in Monza with Torino, also the Nerazzurri from Bergamo passed the quarterfinal round, imposing 3-0 on Juventus.
The Bianconeri started with some initiative and in the first half built a couple of dangerous chances, especially with ConceiƧao.
The Portuguese was stopped, however, first by Carnesecchi and then by the crossbar.
The key episode came in the 25th minute.
Bremer committed a hand foul in the box, the Var intervened and the referee awarded the penalty kick.
From the penalty spot Scamacca was flawless and in the 27th minute signed the 1-0.
Juventus took the blow and struggled to react, with the first half ending without any more goals.
In the second half Spalletti also inserted former and newly acquired Boga, increasing the pressure in search of the equalizer.
To extinguish Juventus’ hopes, however, Atalanta did so in the 77th minute.

Zappacosta went all the way down the right and put a precise cross to the second post, where Sulemana arrived on time for 2-0.
In the final there was also glory for Pasalic who, who entered just over a minute ago, at the 85th minute kicked the trio with a sharp diagonal right-footed shot that sailed past Perin.
Atalanta thus flew into the semifinals, where they will face the winner of Lazio-Bologna.

“Everything has changed, chilling not to be able to know the limits of a clear mistake. Who is to decide that? These guys got beaten out of the stadium, and they do not deserve it – thundered De Rossi -. I will then have to work on the details of a m**** regulation. It will be necessary to learn to be passive on contrasts in the area. But also to jump with our hands in our pockets and not to touch the opponents. However, this Genoa is made up of commendable boys, who go very hard during the week. And against a great opponent like Napoli they played a very intense game”.

According to De Rossi, however, the “big culprit” is the rules and not the opponents on duty. “We are all in the same boat, today it is our turn and tomorrow it could happen to Napoli– stressed the Genoa coach.&#8217 You talk to me about Rrahmani&#8217s episode on Mkhitaryan, you are the ones comparing it to Cornet on Vergara. But I do not remember it, nor do I want to analyze it. I was the first supporter of VAR, because when I played it would allow me to suffer a few less robberies. But now we are giving it a dangerous power, because contacts will always be there and the game will have to change. It will be unfortunate for everyone, but there is no going back. We will all suffer penalties like this”.

Hard had been De Rossi’s analysis as early as in the immediate post-match period at the microphones of ‘DAZN’. Here, however, the Genoa coach had also dwelt on the performance of his own: “Our goals are the result of mistakes of Napoli. But mistakes are part of soccer. If you get down and let your opponents play, you must not make mistakes”.

With the defeat Genoa remains +5 from the relegation zone, but De Rossi in that sense does not get down. “I have seen so many teams manage to win points against Juventus or Napoli. We will do it somewhere else”, his final promise to the fans of the Grifone ahead of the upcoming league commitments.
