Real Madrid is certainly experiencing one of the most troubled seasons in recent history: it all started with the exoneration of Xabi Alonso, at the same time the problems with Vinicius Junior emerged, and in recent days the discontent of the forgotten Dani Carvajal caused a stir. Now, according to Marca, Real Madrid must solve another problem: David Alaba.

The experienced Austrian defender is absolutely unhappy with the management of Alvaro Arbeloa and seems to have said so openly to some club executives: the player expected to play more considering also the defensive problems of the team but the coach has practically always relegated him to the bench. Alaba has known for a long time that Florentino Perez has no intention of renewing his contract that expires in June, however, he expected to play a more important role these months.

Unfortunately, David Alaba’s experience at Real Madrid has been compromised by injuries: it all started with adductor problems in 2021 and 2022, then the Austrian was out with a thigh injury and in December 2023 he ruptured the cruciate ligament in his knee. The very serious injury forced Alaba to stay off the field for more than a year (he missed 72 games between Blancos and the Austrian national team), then in March 2025 he tore his meniscus and was in the pits for 3 months. From October to December 2025 the’former Bayern Munich player was held back by the calf injury.

David Alaba failed to convince Xabi Alonso to let him play between December and January, and with the arrival of Alvaro Arbeloa, things did not change. In the winter soccer session, the Austrian defender was probed by Besiktas and Galatasaray but a calf injury scuppered the talks. According to Spanish media reports, a number of Arab clubs are reportedly taking a close look at David Alaba&#8217s situation with a view to signing him for free in the summer but the possibility that the player may decide to leave playing soccer cannot be ruled out.

Bred in the youth ranks of Austria Wien, David Alaba joined the Bayern Munich youth team when he was 16 years old and went through the entire youth ranks before landing in the first team in 2010. The Bavarian club then sent him 6 months on loan to Hoffenheim’Hoffenheim and between 2011 and 2021 he was a mainstay at the club, then decided to move to Real Madrid but things didn&#8217t go so well.
