F1, Mercedes: Toto Wolff indulges in a prediction about Lewis Hamilton
The mercedes team principal makes a prediction about Lewis Hamilton
In the aftermath of the complicated Singapore Grand Prix, in which Mercedes scored a ninth place with Lewis Hamilton and a 14th with George Russell, the British team principal, Toto Wolff, spoke about the seven-time world champion.
The Brackley team executive pointed out, when interviewed by ‘Channel 4,’ with Hamilton could continue racing for several more years, “I’m sure sooner or later we will sit down at a table and talk about the future. We grew up together, we are transparent with each other. Lewis will be the first to say ‘I can’t take it anymore’ or that he’s not having as much fun as he used to or that he can’t fight with the new generation. We talk a lot together, just last week we sat down and he said, ‘Look, I have five more years on my contract, how do you see it?’ So I have no doubt that whatever the contract extension agreement is, which will happen, we will both discuss very openly what the future holds.”
“Lewis is the greatest personality Formula 1 has ever had. I don’t know if 40 is the age-limit for a driver: if you look at where Fernando is, who is 41, he still fights great. I don’t know if he is the same Alonso of 15 years ago, but he is still very competitive. So Lewis, with the way he leads his life, can go very far,” Toto Wolff concluded.
