Italvolley women, Davide Mazzanti doesn’t discount his girls
The coach of the Azzurre spoke before the commitments against Argentina and China
After the defeat against Brazil, which folded the Azzurre in the fifth set in a tight match, Italy immediately reared its head again by taking the victory against Japan, ruled 3-1. On the day off, coach Davide Mazzanti took an initial stock of the World Cup. Pointing out the way forward to make it all the way to the end of the competition but also pulling the ears a bit to his players.
“The last two days were very important for us, because first we struggled with Brazil, struggling to find the solutions we wanted, consequently losing the match at the tie break, then immediately after that we had to face a really difficult match against Japan. After a defeat it is never easy to readjust, also because Japan is a very particular team that needs special attention from a tactical point of view,” Mazzanti began to the official Federvolley channels.
“I think our level still needs to improve. Our growth during the first phase was perhaps slower than what we had in mind. We were not as satisfied at the level of play as we wanted, and this second round must serve us precisely to improve this aspect. After all, in a World Cup the important matches are played on the feelings the girls have on the court, and the next two challenges will mark crucial moments to find them,” the coach continued.
Finally, a look at the next two matches: “Argentina is a team we know slightly less about, we are studying them and we haven’t played them in a while. Compared to last year’s Olympics then, several players have changed. Against China, on the other hand, which we know very well, it will be another great game. It is a lineup that reminds us of special moments in our journey, it will be very nice to face them again,” he concluded.
