Fernando Alonso erases Lewis Hamilton’s headlines
Fernando Alonso’s words
Fernando Alonso has returned to attacking his old teammate Lewis Hamilton, belittling his triumphs from the pages of De Telegraaf.
“I have a lot of respect for him, but it is still different to win seven world titles when you only had to fight with your teammate. So I think a championship won that way has less value than someone who won fewer titles but had to fight against other drivers who had an equal or even better means.”
Clear reference to Max Verstappen but also to himself, as he explained when talking about 2005-2006. “In those two years I had a good start. Then others had a better car, but I was able to manage that advantage. I never had to fight with my teammate to win those titles. Nor did I see Max struggle with Perez or Albon to win races but Schumacher struggled with his teammate to become champion five times in a row and Hamilton struggled with Rosberg and Bottas. It’s a different thing, I think.”
