World Cup, historic decision: Stephanie Frappart will referee Costa Rica-Germany
Costa Rica-Germany entrusted to Stephanie Frappart
Stephanie Frappart breaks another wall: in fact, the French match director will be the first woman to referee a match in the final phase of the men’s World Cup, specifically Costa Rica-Germany on Thursday, December 1. This was announced by FIFA in releasing the designations for the matches in the coming days.
Frappart, born in 1983, was the first woman to referee in the French top league, the European Super Cup, the Europa League and the Champions League. She participated in the 2020 European Championships without refereeing any matches, but serving as a fourth match official.
The challenge between the Central Americans and the Germans will be decisive in the balance of Group E: in fact, both will have to win to qualify for the round of 16 at Qatar 2022; Germany will also have to wait for the outcome of Spain-Japan to certify their eventual passage to the round.
