Paolo Bertolucci blunt: “Jannik Sinner misses two years.”
Blue tennis player: “He still needs to work on his physique to compete in Slams.”
Paolo Bertolucci in an interview with Unione Sarda takes stock of the three spearheads of Italian tennis, Matteo Berrettini, Jannik Sinner and Lorenzo Musetti. According to the former Italian tennis player, Berrettini is “the one who has the best chance of winning a Major title, on grass, on that surface he is among the top three to four in the world. He has already played a final at Wimbledon that he lost to Djokovic and has won Queen’s twice.”
“In the other Slam tournaments it is more difficult for Berrettini himself or for Sinner, the other Italian near the top Because on cement and clay there are eight to ten players to beat, it is more complicated.” In particular, Sinner in 2022 had to record a setback: “He has to work on his physique. He still has two or three years left to be at the top, to win back-to-back seven matches three out of five sets. You have to look at the example of other top players. Zverev, four to five years ago, had fine legs, then with work in the gym he grew physically and became more competitive. That’s the path our people need to follow.”
Bertolucci does not forget Musetti, the most improved this year: “He is the purest talent in Italian tennis and he is also the youngest. He needs to program himself better, this year he has played too much chasing Atp points everywhere and has trained little. Still, I am optimistic.”
