Belotti and Dybala drag Roma to the round of 16: Fiorentina ok too
Roma-Salzburg 2-0 and Fiorentina-Braga at 3-2 in the 9 p.m. European matches
Following the qualification of Juventus and Lazio, engaged in the 6:45 p.m. matches against Nantes and Cluj in the Europa Legue and Conference League respectively, Roma and Fiorentina also detached their passes on Thursday evening.
If the Tuscan team’s passage to the round was more than expected after the 0-4 win over Braga in the first leg, a different kind of task awaited Jose Mourinho’s team, called upon to overturn the mocking defeat in Austria seven days ago: mission accomplished thanks to goals by Andrea Belotti and Paulo Dybala in the first half.
The Giallorossi lineup, perhaps in the best European version of the season, immediately started with the foot on the accelerator, forcing the guests to hole up in their own half. The balance is broken in the 33rd minute by a beautiful play by Spinazzola, who puts the 1-0 ball on the former Toro center forward’s head. Just 7′ passed and again the unleashed outside player served Dybala a ball that the Argentine was then good at finalizing on the volley for the double. In the second half, with the match on the right tracks for the Giallorossi’s characteristics, Roma risked nothing, taking home qualification to the next round.
Fiorentina, on the other hand, frightened its fans for a good half hour, except then settled a decent Braga as the minutes passed. In fact, the guests went ahead by two goals with goals from Castro in the 16th minute and Djalò in the 34th minute, before Mandragora halved the deficit in the 37th minute. In the second half, goals by Saponara in the 58th minute and Cabral in the 83rd completed the celebration: the Viola were in the round of 16 of the Conference League.
