Soldeu, results
It was Norway that won the team competition at the Soldeu Finals, beating Switzerland 3-1 in the final. Third place for Austria, which defeated Germany, in the consolation final.
Italy ended its run in the Soldeu team event in the quarters, defeated 3 to 1 by Germany. Lena Duerr beat Marta Bassino, while Filippo Della Vite was faster than Andreas Sander. Then the defeats of Federica Brignone to Jessica Hilzinger and Corrado Barbera against Linus Strasser.
“We tried,” said Marta Bassino, “because when you open the gate you start to do the best. But let’s turn the page and think about the next two races where we can still do something good.”
“To me losing always makes me angry,” said Brignone. However, I gave 100 percent and I am sorry for the result. It is very difficult to prepare this kind of races, especially for those who, like me and Marta, do all disciplines. Obviously if a race is not prepared you lose. However, I still play for something important in the giant and I have every intention to do my best.”
“At least I broke the ice with the World Cup,” Barbera said, “The parallel I had almost never done. Now I’m thinking about the slalom, which will be my real race. I expect to go away knowing that I gave it my all and have nothing to complain about.”
“It’s never good to come out of the race right away,” Della Vite said. We know, we were never great at this discipline,” Della Vite said, “we need to train it a little more. At least it served to break the ice. The giant will be a regular race because the first run is always hard and the second run they will treat it with salt.”
For Saturday, the program includes the men’s giant slalom first run at 9 a.m. and second run at 12 p.m. and the women’s slalom, with first run at 10:30 a.m. and second run at 1:30 p.m.
