Max Verstappen thinks back to Michael Schumacher: “So many good memories.”
A clear intent to rivals, but also a sweet childhood memory.
Max Verstappen thinks back to Michael Schumacher. As he goes through a season whose dominance is reminiscent of the Kaiser’s 2002 and 2004 in the Ferrari years, the Dutchman reiterates his intention to cannibalize Formula 1 but at the same time dedicates some sweet thoughts to the seven-time world champion, whom he got to know very closely when he was just a child.
It is no secret that the Schumacher and Verstappen families have hung out a lot, starting in that 1994 when Michael won his first world championship and Jos was his teammate in Benetton. “I have wonderful memories with Michael Schumacher,” Max told ‘Servus TV’. Our families were very close, I also keep many wonderful photographs of those times. I never thought I would get to 42 victories in Formula 1, let alone 60 or 70. As long as I drive such a strong car, though, it’s normal to collect so many successes in championships where GPs are so numerous.”
And now Verstappen is aiming for a goal that not even Schumacher’s Ferrari achieved: “We want to win every GP this year. That’s our team goal, but it won’t be easy. There are still so many races to go, a mistake could come at any time.” The Red Bull goal, however, is there.
