Marc Marquez, Puig no-nonsense: “More serious situation”
Honda team manager Alberto Puig in an interview with MotoGp.com spoke about the difficult situation in the Japanese team, which has become “even more serious” as the Grands Prix go by.
Puig called the bike “unsafe and underperforming”: “We can’t get it to the required level. We are trying to improve it, but the fact is that we are not where we need to be. We have to dig even deeper to understand what the problems are and what the solutions are.”
The team is groping in the dark and Marc Marquez’s constant crashes are not helping: “Marquez is not in his best condition and he suffered many crashes in Germany. There is no rider in the world who is happy if he falls and realizes the bike is not at the level he needs. Then again, he is a world champion and he always wants to push harder, he never gives up. The situation has become more serious but Marc has to take it more calmly. He is not happy and we respect him.”
Joan Mir has become a case: the Spanish centaur was supposed to return to Assen but again forfeited. “After his crash in Mugello he was very impressed. He is new and does not understand the bike. It is not a question of ability, but also because the bike is not ready. Things are not going as we would like but at the moment there will be no radical changes.”
