Tragedy in Valle d'Aosta: a speed skiing azure and his girlfriend die

A terrible tragedy has struck the world of winter sports and in particular speed skiing

.

In a tragic mountain accident that occurred above Champoluc, Aosta province, Jean Daniel Pession, a 28-year-old member of the World Cup speed skiing team, lost his life. Along with Pession è also died his girlfriend Elisa Arlian, a cross-country skier.

The two were engaged on the ridge dividing the east and north faces of Zerbion. The helicopter rescue è intervention was triggered after they failed to return. The bodies of the two mountaineers were spotted by the crew of the Guardia di Finanza helicopter equipped with cell phone signal detection equipment and recovered, unfortunately lifeless, along the north face. The doctor on board the Sa1 helicopter pronounced them dead.

During his career, the Valle d’Aosta climber had achieved his best results in 2021, placing 15th in the final World Cup rankings, while at the World Championships he finished 22° in Vars in 2022.
