Jasmine Paolini-Elina Avanesyan 4-6 6-0 6-1
A dreamy Jasmine Paolini reached the quarterfinals of Roland Garros, taking her among the top eight players at a Grand Slam for the first time in her career. The Italian, in fact, defeated Russian Elina Avanesyan, number 70 in the WTA ranking, in a comeback in three sets with a final score of 4-6 6-0 6-1.
Shock start for Paolini, who loses her serve in the opening game and commits several free serves, finding herself down 0-4 in an instant. In the fifth game, the Tuscan managed to move the score and then recover a break disadvantage. However, the Italian did not complete the comeback and è was forced to surrender to Avanesyan, who took the first partial 6-4.
Paolini's reaction in the second set è rabid: after holding serve in the first game, the Tuscan placed the break at the seventh attempt in the second game that launched her to a clear 6-0 trimming of her opponent, unable to win a single game.
In the third set, the music does not change: after an initial exchange of breaks, Paolini dominates the partial, stringing five consecutive games that allow her to close on the final 6-1 at the second useful match point.
With this victory Paolini thus enters the quarterfinals of the Paris Slam where she will face Kazakhstan’s Elena Rybakina, number 4 in the ranking and seeding, who beat Ukrainian Elina Svitolina in two sets.
