Reyer Venezia announces a reinforcement in the frontcourt. The Orogranata club, through a statement on its official channels, announced the signing of Carl Anton Delroy Wheatle from Estra Pistoia. The 1998-born English winger signed a multi-year contract with the Venetian club.
Born in Lambeth, London, on March 24, 1998, Carl Wheatle è a 2-meter by 88 kilograms wing, English by birth, but Italian by training. An unselfish player and excellent defender, he can play both 3 and 4, è just back from an important season with Pistoia with which he contributed to a sixth place finish in the regular season and qualification for the Final Eight of the Italian Cup.
Wheatle grew up basketball-wise in London with the London Greenhouse Pioneers, at age 15 he moved to Biella where he completed the youth sector until making his first-team debut. From 2016 to 2019 he played in A2 with the Piedmontese team, also sharing the court with Amedeo Tessitori (2016-2018). From 2019 he wears the jersey of Pistoia for five seasons, debuting in Serie A in the season that did not end due to the pandemic and contributing, as a protagonist, to the LNP Supercup victory in 2021 and promotion to Serie A1 in June 2023.
In the 2023/24 season Wheatle played almost 28 minutes of average minutes per game recording 8 points, 5.1 rebounds and 10.3 rating per game, becoming a great balancer of the Tuscan quintet thanks to his technical and athletic skills and his being a team-man. Since 2017 he has been a member of the Great Britain national basketball team with which he played Eurobasket in 2022.
"I am overjoyed to arrive at Reyer, which I thank for strongly wanting me: it represents an important opportunity for my career and my growth. I am so charged for this new adventure, è a challenge that comes at the right time. Reyer è an ambitious Club, the reviews I have received are super and I believe I am in line with the mentality è and work culture of the Società. As a player è it is important for me to feel part of a family and a Club that is important to its area. Ità will be really challenging, even the coach has conveyed to me a lot of energy and willà to work hard. I will put myself at the disposal of the group with a lot of energy and defensive application, among my main qualities, as well as versatility in covering multiple positions in offense and defense.
In addition, a challenge that I strongly desire to face è that of the Eurocup in which I have never played, although I have gained experience in the international arena with the UK national team.
I can't wait to start and get to know the whole Reyer world, see you soon!" these are the first statements of Carl Wheatle as a player of Venice.
