Capobianco’s words after the knockout with Greece

First defeat for the women's Italbasket in the qualifying round for the upcoming European Championship 2025, which moreover sees us already qualified as host country (Bologna, June 18-21, 2025). In Chalkida, in fact, the Azzurre surrendered to Greece (56-45) in the fourth engagement of the qualifying group but still retained first place in Group I.

In the’last window, Andrea Capobianco s girls will face Germany at home on Feb. 6 and Czechia in Brno on Feb. 9. On March 8, 2025, the draws will be held for the four rounds of the upcoming Women’s European Basketball Championship. The Azzurraès best scorer was Matilde Villa with 14 points. Debuts in the senior jersey for Sara Scalia and Sara Toffolo.

The Azzurre, having learned in the morning the news of the tragic death of Giovanni Spedaletti Trabalza, wanted to symbolically remember him during the’execution of the’Mameli Anthem: captain Jasmine Keys held a whistle, along with the tricolor pennant.

Coach Capobianco commented on the defeat this way: "This game is good for us because it gives us a chance to understand who we are and who we want to be. We alternated moments of good basketball with others in which we committed serious carelessness. It wasnè t easy to find new balance on a day without our two starting centers: in the first quarter we suffered a lot from Fasoula, who we then somehow contained as the minutes".

"The 18 offensive rebounds conceded is a heavy figure, every player must understand that she has individual responsibility in that fundamental: if you concede soì often second and third opportunitiesà, you rarely win. In any case we close a positive week: in February we will meet again to eliminate the mistakes made today" concluded the coach of the Azzurre.
