Ready to return to the court at the Madrid Masters 1000 after participating in the ATP 500 in Barcelona and being eliminated in the quarters at the hands of Arthur Fils, Lorenzo Musetti nonetheless drew a positive balance of the week in Catalonia, confirming that he feels ready to raise the bar ahead of the season’s clay court highlights.

“I needed to regain continuity and sensations, both in the physical and in the head,” the Carrara-based tennis player explained to official ATP channels, recalling how the return to Monte-Carlo, after more than two months without matches on clay, had been particularly hard to handle. The work done in recent weeks is starting to give encouraging answers: I have been training very well and this is the most important aspect. I know that sooner or later the results will come.”

Now the focus shifts to Madrid, a tournament that Musetti knows well and where he excelled last year. The conditions, however, require immediate adaptation, and in this sense Musetti shares the words of Jannik Sinner, who on the eve of the tournament warned everyone about the pitfalls of the Caja Magica: “Here the ball travels faster from the first practice and the rebounds are very high. You have to take measures, but it’s part of our job: every week we face different situations and we have to be ready.”

“Playing on the high ground presents specific challenges, especially in response: when I have to handle very powerful backhand serves, it’s not easy to find rhythm and strength. But other than that, I see mostly positive aspects of this surface, and I’m looking forward to my tournament,” concluded Musetti, who will make his debut, as number 6 in the seeding, directly in the second round.
