Andrea Calzavara, the solution on his future makes everyone happy

The Apu Udine market is on the boil, but there is one sticking point that will make Udine fans happy: Andrea Calzavara will continue his experience with the bianconeri next season. Market Radio reports that the agreement with Olimpia Milano has already been reached, with a three-year contract ready for the outside forward from Gallarate, but the white-and-red club has decided to leave him where he is, at least for 2026-27. The goal is to allow coach Vertemati to continue the former Brindisi player’s growth path, entrusting him with an absolute starring role.

The confirmation does not come unexpected, considering the path Calzavara has built this season. The 2001-class point guard, who grew up in the youth sector of Varese Basketball, quickly established himself as one of the staples of Vertemati’s rotations, ending the year with an average of 12.8 points. His best performance of the season came right on Olimpia Milano’s parquet, where on January 4 he put up 17 points: a performance that, paradoxically, had contributed to turn the Milanese spotlight on him.

The interest of EA7 had emerged as early as March, when there had been talk of a possible formula that would have included the signing of a contract with the meneghini and a one-year loan in Friuli. A proposal that Apu had firmly returned to sender, even intervening with an official note to deny any hypothesis of transfer and reiterate the centrality of the player in its technical programs. On the same line was his agent, Riccardo Sbezzi, who had declared to Messaggero Veneto, “Andrea is comfortable in Udine and remains where he is.” Virtus Bologna had also monitored the situation, making the dossier even more delicate for the Friulian management.

A testament to his rapid rise is also the recognition in the Italian national team sphere: head coach Luca Banchi has permanently included him in the national team’s roster, summoning him already in the first gathering in October 2025 and recalling him in February for the two 2027 World Cup qualifying matches against Great Britain, played in Newcastle and Livorno. A run that further raised his market price, making his stay in the bianconero even more valuable.

The rest of the Friulian market, however, remains far from settled. Among the names being monitored by the club is JP Macura, star of a brilliant end to the season with Treviso, where in the last 11 games he traveled at an average of 17.8 points. A profile that occupies the same role as Mirza Alibegovic, a detail that could fuel an interesting market derby in the Triveneto region. Just on the bianconero captain, despite being still bound to the club by another two years of contract, there would have been the interest of the new Roman club that acquired the sports title of Vanoli Cremona, ready to debut in Serie A with a project linked to NBA Europe.
