Jannik Sinner: Zverev’s brother is also drastic

Alexander Zverev’s brother Mischa Zverev, a former professional tennis player turned coach, spoke to Eurosport’s microphones about Jannik Sinner’s surprising elimination at Roland Garros: “Sinner’s elimination was a huge surprise, and it was a consequence of the extremely high temperatures in Paris.”
“No matter how fit or good you are, if your body gives out, there is nothing you can do. You simply feel terrible. I’ve experienced that myself. In 2009 I was having a very good season, but I suffered from cramps in all four Slam tournaments, in every single match: I retired four times or lost 0-6 in the fifth set. At a certain point, your body gives out and there is absolutely nothing you can do about it.”
An argument, that of heat as a determining factor, also shared by Patrick Mouratoglou. The famous French coach, on his social channels, said he was one hundred percent convinced that Sinner had suffered a heat stroke, stressing that the South Tyrolean did not want to admit it publicly so as not to reveal a vulnerability to opponents. Mouratoglou recalled similar episodes in the past: the withdrawal in Shanghai due to cramps and the critical moment at the Australian Open, where the roof closure and air conditioning had allowed Sinner to recover and win the title.
In the meantime, Sinner chose Sardinia to recharge his energy, spending a few relaxing days in Palau and the La Maddalena archipelago together with his girlfriend Laila Hasanovic, his father, brother and some friends. The group was spotted on a boat among the inlets of the Gallura coast, and the world number one looked serene, smilingly indulging in selfies and autographs with fans who recognized him.
