Jannik Sinner is now on edge; his historic winning streak is in danger of coming to an end

The knee problems that continue to hamper Jannik Sinner—forcing him to withdraw from the two North American Masters 1000 tournaments in Montreal and Cincinnati—are also casting doubt on his participation in the U.S. Open. With about ten days to go before the tournament begins, the Italian’s participation remains uncertain.
A missed appearance in New York would be an unprecedented event in Sinner’s career. The Italian No. 1 has, in fact, played in 27 consecutive Grand Slams, competing without interruption in the main draws of the Australian Open, Roland Garros, Wimbledon, and the U.S. Open since 2019.
The last time Sinner did not compete in a Grand Slam tournament was at Wimbledon 2019, when he was eliminated in the first round of qualifying. To find the last time he missed even the qualifying rounds, one must go back to Roland Garros 2019. In 2020, Wimbledon was not held due to the pandemic.
In his 27 consecutive Grand Slam appearances, Sinner has won five titles: the Australian Open in 2024 and 2025, Wimbledon in 2025 and 2026, and the US Open in 2024. To complete the Career Grand Slam, he only needs to win Roland Garros, where he reached the final in 2025.
