Milan Transfer Market: Diego Moreira Joins the Rossoneri—Who Is the Devil’s New Signing?

On Wednesday evening, Milan officially announced the signing of Diego Moreira, a Belgian international born in 2004, who has played for Strasbourg in Ligue 1 for the past two seasons. “AC Milan announces that it has acquired the playing rights of Diego Moreira from Strasbourg on a permanent basis,” reads the club’s official statement. “The Belgian winger has signed a contract with the Rossoneri through June 30, 2031, and will wear the No. 22 jersey.”
Having come up through the youth systems at Standard Liège and Benfica, he made a name for himself in the Portuguese club’s youth ranks by winning the 2021–2022 UEFA Youth League and the Under-20 Intercontinental Cup, as well as making his debut in the Champions League qualifiers during the 2022–2023 season. In 2023, he moved to Chelsea, where he made his first-team debut in the Carabao Cup.
The following year, he played in Ligue 1 with Lyon before transferring to Strasbourg in the summer of 2024. In France, he established himself as one of the league’s most promising young players thanks to his speed, technical ability, and versatility. On the international stage, Moreira represented Portugal through the Under-21 level, also participating in the 2023 Under-21 European Championship. Since 2025, he has played for the Belgian national team, making his debut in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers and taking part in the final tournament this summer.
The young winger, incidentally, could also have played for Guinea-Bissau, his father Almami’s country of origin (Almami is also a soccer player and a Guinean international), and for Austria, as he is the maternal grandson of former soccer player Helmut Graf, a star for Admira Wacker in the 1980s and 1990s.
